multiple Super Bowl rings

The San Francisco 49ers are one of the most well known and famous franchises in all of professional sports. They have had down years like every team, but they have also had some amazing years too. The great talent they have had at times has even won the team more than its fair share of Super Bowl trophies.

The team has had some awesome quarterbacks over the years, but who has won more games than any other 49ers signal caller? Here is a look at the top three winningest quarterbacks in San Francisco 49ers history, through the 2009 season.

#1 - Joe Montana

Joe Montana came to the 49ers after being drafted in the third round out of the University of Notre Dame. He put up some incredible number over the years as the point man on Bill Walsh's west coast offense. In the end he retired with most of the team passing records, multiple Super Bowl rings, and tons of individual awards. He also left the team with a nice even 100 wins before playing the last two seasons of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs.

#2 - Steve Young

Steve Young had an interesting route on his way to becoming the Super Bowl winning starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers. He played collegiately at Brigham Young University and was then signed to play by the Los Angeles Express of the mid 1980's USFL. After leaving the league, he would toil for a short time on the roster of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After being traded to the 49ers, he then had to wait for his moment as he watched the great Joe Montana perform on the field. When he finally got his shot, he made the most of it and the greatest team of the 1980's seemed to miss a beat in the early 1990's. He would end his career with the 49ers with 91 wins for the team.

#3 - John Brodie

John Brodie came along and unseeded the popular Y.A. Tittle at quarterback for the 49ers in the late 1950's. He would end up staying with the team for a 17 year run that included big wins and outstanding performances. By the time he retired, he owned the team passing record book. He was amazingly popular in the city and kept his close ties with it after his playing days were done. Many don't know it, but Brodie was also an accomplished golfer and eventually played on the Senior PGA Tour. He amassed 74 wins during his days as the starting quarterback for the team.
